From Saha-gu, Busan. At nine, he put on Dream Theater's Live at Budokan DVD in his older cousin's room, watched Mike Portnoy chop the beat into pieces and stitch it back together, and froze on the spot. From that night on he drummed on his pillow with chopsticks. At thirteen he found a Shadows Fall live video on YouTube and discovered Jason Bittner. Watching those hands hit the ride bell on the offbeat and fill every gap with ghost notes, he found a dream. To become a metal drummer.

부산 사하구 출신. 아홉 살 때 사촌형 방에서 Dream Theater의 Live at Budokan DVD를 틀었다가, Mike Portnoy가 박자를 잘게 쪼개 다시 이어 붙이는 걸 보고 그 자리에서 얼어붙었다. 그날 밤부터 젓가락으로 베개를 두드렸다. 열세 살에 유튜브에서 Shadows Fall 라이브를 보고 Jason Bittner를 알게 됐다. 라이드 벨을 오프비트로 찍으며 고스트 노트를 채워 넣는 그 손을 보고, 꿈이 생겼다. 메탈 드러머가 되는 것.

That December, The Rev of Avenged Sevenfold died at twenty-eight. In the year he started dreaming, he lost one of his idols. The next year, Portnoy left Dream Theater. For thirteen years TYLER listened to a Dream Theater without Portnoy, and in 2023 he read the news of his return alone in room 6.

같은 해 12월, Avenged Sevenfold의 The Rev가 스물여덟 살로 세상을 떠났다. 꿈을 꾸기 시작한 해에 우상 하나를 잃은 셈이다. 이듬해에는 Portnoy가 Dream Theater를 떠났다. TYLER는 그 뒤로 13년 동안 Portnoy가 빠진 Dream Theater를 들었고, 2023년 그가 돌아온다는 소식은 6번 방에서 혼자 봤다.

At fourteen he started posting drum covers on YouTube that showed only his hands. He kept his face out of frame simply because he was shy, and that became the start of the band. RYAN in Daejeon replied with a guitar cover of the same song.

열네 살부터 손만 나오는 드럼 커버를 유튜브에 올렸다. 얼굴을 안 찍은 이유는 그냥 부끄러워서였는데, 그게 밴드의 시작이 됐다. 대전의 RYAN이 같은 곡 기타 커버로 답장을 보냈다.

He never lifts his head for the whole show. He decides how many times a second the strobe fires. The light slit in his mask blinks on the beat.

공연 내내 고개를 들지 않는다. 섬광이 1초에 몇 번 터질지는 그가 정한다. 가면의 빛 틈은 박자에 맞춰 깜빡인다.
