Born too late for the golden age. Found it anyway.

STROBERIOT is a masked metalcore band from Seoul, formed by five friends all born in 2000. The name joins STROBE and RIOT; the slogan is A riot under the strobe.

STROBERIOT(스트로브라이엇)는 2000년생 동갑내기 다섯 명이 만든 서울의 가면 메탈코어 밴드다. 이름은 STROBE와 RIOT의 결합, 슬로건은 A riot under the strobe.

In 2004, at the height of the NWOAHM golden age, when Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall and Unearth fought for the throne of metal, they were just four. Too late to live that era, the five found the sound around age ten — on YouTube, on an older cousin's DVD, on a CD in a father's car. So their music is less nostalgia than a first love that arrived late.

2004년, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Unearth가 메탈씬의 왕좌를 다투던 NWOAHM의 황금기에 이들은 고작 네 살이었다. 그 시대를 라이브로 겪지 못한 다섯 아이는 열 살 무렵 유튜브에서, 사촌형의 DVD에서, 아버지 차의 CD에서 그 소리를 늦게 발견했다. 그래서 이들의 음악은 향수가 아니라 늦게 도착한 첫사랑에 가깝다.

The names the five grew up on: Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Unearth, As I Lay Dying, All That Remains, August Burns Red, Parkway Drive, Of Mice & Men, Avenged Sevenfold, and Dream Theater, the band that sat TYLER behind a drum kit. Only Wage War, which debuted when the five were fifteen, was a band of their own time that they followed in real time.

다섯 명이 함께 자란 이름들은 Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Unearth, As I Lay Dying, All That Remains, August Burns Red, Parkway Drive, Of Mice & Men, Avenged Sevenfold, 그리고 TYLER를 드럼 앞에 앉힌 Dream Theater다. 이 중 Wage War만은 다섯 명이 열다섯 살 때 데뷔한, 처음으로 실시간으로 따라간 동시대 밴드였다.

The anchor of the sound is a guitar that sings on top of a metalcore body. Melodic harmony riffs and guitar solos, blade-sharp rests after palm mutes, double bass exploding over offbeat ride bells. And at some point, a synth began to slip into the recordings. Even though none of the five has ever played keys.

사운드의 닻은 메탈코어 몸통 위에서 기타가 노래하는 것. 멜로디 하모니 리프와 기타 솔로, 팜뮤트 뒤의 칼 같은 쉼표, 오프비트 라이드 벨 위로 터지는 투베이스. 그리고 어느 순간부터 녹음 속에 신스 소리가 섞여 들어오기 시작했다. 다섯 명 중 누구도 건반을 친 적이 없는데도.

2015: SETH (15) returns to Korea and meets BLAKE at a guitar shop in Nakwon Arcade, Seoul. That winter, TYLER and RYAN's first joint cover is a song by the newly debuted Wage WarSETH(15세) 귀국. 서울 낙원상가 기타 샵에서 BLAKE를 처음 만남. 같은 해 겨울, TYLER와 RYAN이 처음으로 맞춰 올린 합동 커버는 막 데뷔한 Wage War의 곡이었음

2018.11: The night the college entrance exam ends: first rehearsal in “Room 6”, a B2 basement studio in Hapjeong. A power cut; they play until dawn under one broken strobe light. The band's name comes from here수능 끝난 밤, 합정 지하 B2 연습실 「6번 방」에서 첫 합주. 그날 정전, 고장 난 스트로브 조명 하나만 깜빡이는 채로 새벽까지 연주. 밴드 이름이 여기서 나옴
2019: First show, masked from the start. First demo recorded the same year; a “sixth sound” is heard in the mix for the first time첫 공연. 처음부터 가면을 씀. 같은 해 첫 데모 녹음, 믹스에서 「여섯 번째 소리」가 처음 들림

The STROBE riff

A harmony riff that has followed every recording since the night of the power cut in 2018, their first rehearsal in room 6. No one knows who played it first. So each song on the first album opens with this riff in its blood, then scatters into its own story. It is clearest in 08 STROBE, and returns in 09 RIOT, turned dark.

6번 방에서 처음 합주한 2018년 정전 밤부터 녹음마다 따라다니는 하모니 리프. 누가 먼저 쳤는지 아무도 모른다. 그래서 1집의 곡들은 저마다 이 리프의 핏줄로 문을 열고, 각자 다른 이야기로 흩어진다. 08 STROBE에서 가장 또렷하게 들리고, 09 RIOT에서 흑화한 모습으로 다시 돌아온다.
